About the Owner
Dr. Dwaneti A. Brooks, EdD, BCBA, LBA; also known as “the child whisper” by those close to her. Whether it be the way she organizes and utilizes her materials or how she speaks with children, they seek to accomplish the tasks presented to them. She is a NYS certified Birth-Grade 6 doctorate level teacher (general & special education), curriculum specialist and board certified/licensed behavioral analyst, with over 10 years of experience and proficiency with the common core curriculum. As a curriculum specialist she has acquired the skills needed to focus on different ways to improve learning opportunities for students; evaluate existing curriculums; and assess the quality of my instruction. As a behavioral analyst she is able to identify the needs of her clients and formulate treatment plans in collaboration with their family members or other care providers to manage problematic behaviors and determine how to best address long-term individual goals.
Her teaching experiences have shaped and been shaped by her research interest, therefore, developmental growth and enrichment are at the forefront of Lil Know-It Owls’ mission. Her goal in developing these services is two-fold: (1) facilitate children as they begin their journey to be knowledgeable members of society, and (2) empower them to be hungry for more knowledge. The children she works with keep her motivated in the mission of facilitating children through achievable milestones and her vision of providing valuable and meaningful services remains at the heart of what she does. She invites you to become a part of her mission, as we work together to expand your child’s academic success.
As we end these reflections about Lil Know-It Owls mission, we are reminded of one of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s dictums, "The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically...intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education". We believe the goal of educating children can only be achieved by presenting them with more than rote memorization tasks. In other words, we vow to move beyond the traditional model of teaching to a point at which students can learn effectively.
